Manchester United have been backed to give Alexis Sanchez a second shot at the club, despite the player’s struggles at Inter Milan. The Chile international has toiled at the San Siro but, with the Serie A giants unwilling to sign him permanently, the 31-year-old could be set for a sensational return to Old Trafford. Especially if Jadon Sancho proves to be beyond their reach.
United may struggle to find a buyer for Sanchez and could have no choice but to re-introduce the forward into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.
And, on Sunday, the Red Devils have also been backed to sign Donny van de Beek and Antoine Griezmann.
Van de Beek isn’t entirely sold on a move to Real Madrid and United could swoop for the Ajax star instead, especially if Paul Pogba goes.
And Red Devils supremo Ed Woodward thinks he can land Antoine Griezmann from Barcelona for a bargain price this summer.
Express Sport now takes a look at how United could line up with Sanchez back, plus the signings of Griezmann and Van de Beek.
KEY STORY: Man Utd owners the Glazers may sell up faster because of coronavirus crisis
- Man Utd chief Woodward makes transfer decision because of Di Maria
United loaned out Sanchez to Inter Milan but the player has found the net just once under Antonio Conte over in Italy.
And with Marcus Rashford shining on the right, the Red Devils may opt to field the Chilean on the opposite flank.
Sanchez played there when at Barcelona earlier in his career.
And with United short on options in that position, that could be the answer to their Sanchez conundrum.
He was good there for Barcelona, too, which means it would make sense to experiment with him back in that role.
- Man Utd may be about to make odd signing – but it would please Glazers
United are expected to sell Paul Pogba this summer.
But they could yet lure Griezmann away from Barcelona regardless and play him in the No 10 position.
That would allow Bruno Fernandes to drop deeper into midfield, with Griezmann then adopting the playmaker role.
Part of the reason he’s struggled at Barcelona is because they play without a No 10 most of the time.
And the prospect of Griezmann getting his favoured role at United could boost his chances of rediscovering his best form.

Donny van de Beek
Van de Beek is versatile, with the Ajax star capable of playing anywhere across the central midfield.
And the Dutchman would be a big hit at Old Trafford if he were to be deployed alongside Fernandes in the heart of their side.
The duo could form a strong partnership at the club.
They’d be able to dictate matches and create chances for forwards Sanchez, Griezmann, Rashford and Martial.
And if United can beat Real Madrid to his signature, then that will be quite a coup.
