Dortmund confirm Mario Gotze exit with World Cup winner to leave for nothing

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Mario Gotze will leave the club for a second time this summer.

The midfielder, scorer of Germany’s winning goal in the 2014 World Cup Final, will depart the Westfalenstadion when his contract expires.

Gotze, who initially broke through at the club as a teenage prodigy under Jurgen Klopp, returned to the club in 2016 after three years with Bayern Munich – whom he joined in a controversial move in 2013.

But injury issues and illness have dogged the talented playmaker during his second spell with BVB.

This term he has made just six starts and only 19 appearances in all competitions under Lucien Favre, who this week admitted that there is no natural spot in the side for Gotze.

Last month Gotze, 27, hinted at a summer exit, stating: “I have decided to make a change in the planning of my career.”

Now Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has confirmed that the club’s No.10 will exit.

“Mario will leave this summer,” he announced, speaking on Sky Sports Deutschland.

“It’s a decision that both sides have made after discussing the situation. Mario really is a good guy.”

Liverpool boss Klopp responds to Sancho and Mbappe transfer links

Jurgen Klopp insists he is entirely happy with his current Liverpool stars.

But he has left the door open for future moves for Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe or Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.

The Reds boss, who refuses to be drawn on the identity of his transfer targets admitted; "If we can get one of them in the future, we will see".

Liverpool are on the cusp of a first league title in 30 years with matches set to resume next month but are continuing to look at how to further strengthen.

And they have continually been linked with both Mbappe and Sancho over the last 12 months.

Klopp has previously admitted being a big fan of the pair, and would have liked to snap up Sancho from Manchester City in 2017 – but they weren't interested in letting the then-untested youngster head to Anfield.

Now, in an interview with beIN Sports, Klopp has been quizzed on future targets – but instead chose to highlight the star power he already has at his disposal.

"Sadio Mane is young enough and Mo Salah is young enough to be in that group for the next few years.

“I am completely happy with the boys that I have, but I never thought about the others.

“When I am at a club then I work with the players I have, I don’t dream about other players.

If we can get one of them in the future, we will see, but we will make the best of the situation we have.”

Erling Haaland opens up on the Man Utd legends he’s always looked up to

Erling Haaland is already an inspiration to youngsters the world over, but the Borussia Dortmund forward has revealed the players he idolised when he was growing up.

The Norway international has developed a reputation for himself as one of Europe's bright young talents and has netted 36 goals in 33 appearances for club and country this term.

The 19-year-old netted 25 goals in 23 games for previous club Red Bull Salzburg, which earned the teenager a €20m move to Dortmund in the January transfer window.

Haaland has hit the ground running with the Bundesliga giants and had 12 goals in 11 games before the coronavirus outbreak brought a halt to football across Europe.

Such scintillating scoring form has seen the Norwegian star earn a legion of fans across the globe with youngsters trying to mimic his style.

But the the son of former Leeds and Man City midfielder Alf Inge has revealed who he found himself looking up during his formative years.

"My biggest idol as a child, I had a lot of good players (to look up to)," he said in Q&A session on Dortmund's YouTube channel.

"From Zlatan (Ibrahimovic) to (Cristiano) Ronaldo, to these kind of guys.

"I cannot say one, so I'll say two: Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic."

Haaland certainly seems to have learned his goalscoring prowess from watching both Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic, who have been among Europe's most fearsome finishers over the past decade.

Man Utd transfer alert as Erling Haaland details what he wants from next club

Manchester United have been put on alert after Erling Haaland explained what influences his decision when he chooses a new club.

United missed out on their top January target when Haaland instead signed for Borussia Dortmund in a £19million move that looks set to prove a bargain.

The 19-year-old has already scored 12 goals in 11 appearances for Dortmund, taking his total for the season to 40 in 33 games after he fired 28 goals for Red Bull Salzburg before heading for Germany.

There have already been reports that Real Madrid will make a move for the Norway international this summer, but Dortmund are expected to try and keep Haaland for at least one more season – especially if they lose United target Jadon Sancho in the next transfer window.

But if Haaland keeps up his form, he could be one of the hottest transfer properties in the summer of 2021.

So United will do well to listen to the youngster explain what has been important to him in plotting his moves so far from Norwegian club Molde to Salzburg, on then to Bundesliga title challengers Dortmund.

"You’ve got to time how good you are, how good the club is, the people there, how they take care of you, how they help you evolve," the striker told Eurosport.

"There is a lot of factors and I remember when we discussed Salzburg and different clubs we figured out very early that Salzburg was the best option.

“And I’ve always thought ‘I can’t overrate myself’. That has always been important to me.

Man Utd and Real Madrid ‘ready to trigger Erling Haaland’s £63m release clause’

Manchester United are preparing to trigger a £63million release clause in Erling Haaland's contract – but will face competition from Real Madrid.

Haaland is expected to stay at Borussia Dortmund for at least another season after joining them in a bargain £18m move in January – but could be one of the hottest transfer properties in the summer of 2021.

And that raises the prospect of the Red Devils teaming him up with another current Dortmund star, with United near the front of the queue to sign £100m-rated Jadon Sancho this summer.

United pulled out of talks to sign Haaland from Red Bull Salzburg in January, with the striker instead heading to the Bundesliga.

Since then the 19-year-old has kept up the scoring form that alerted Europe's top clubs to his potential, with 12 goals in 11 games for Dortmund taking his total for the season to 40 in 33 appearances.

And despite missing out on Haaland earlier in the year, United are targeting another swoop for him at the end of next season, having been alerted to a release clause in his contract which is below his current market value.

That's according to a report from ESPN, which claims that both United and Madrid will be in the hunt for the Norwegian striker if and when he decides to leave Dortmund.

Reports in Spain have suggested that Madrid could make a move this summer, having struggled for goals this season despite being top of La Liga.

But the German club will want to keep Haaland for at least the next campaign – especially as they are set to lose one of their main goal threats this summer with Sancho widely expected to leave.
